They present a thumbtack and hold it between their thumb and forefinger, as shown in the illustration. Now, with a slightly pained face, push the thumbtack deeper and deeper into your thumb until only the wooden cap is sticking out.

To prove that the pin is in place, twist your thumb and the tack will hold.

Now pull the pin out of your thumb again and give it to the examination immediately. The puncture hole has disappeared, and no blood has flowed.
